Yosemite Dome Fire: Firefighters Battle Wildfire as Officials Monitor Conditions

The Dome Fire began on September 15, 2026, near Wawona in Yosemite National Park. By September 26, the fire had burned approximately 4,498 acres and was 28% contained, according to the National Park Service.

Hundreds of firefighters and support personnel have been working to strengthen containment lines and protect nearby communities. Officials reported no immediate threat to buildings, utilities, or roads in their September 26 update.

Some trails and roads, including Glacier Point Road, were closed because of smoke and firefighting operations. Visitors are advised to check official park alerts before travelling.

The response was also marked by the deaths of two helicopter pilots, Greg King and Ryan Cutter, who died in a crash on September 20 while supporting firefighting efforts. Authorities are investigating the incident.
