The Trump administration has reached a new deal with OpenAI aimed at expanding the use of artificial intelligence across government agencies.
Under the agreement, the U.S. federal government will receive a 50% discount on OpenAI’s most advanced AI models, with no minimum spending requirement. State, local and tribal governments will also be eligible for the same discount.
The partnership is intended to make advanced AI technology more affordable and accessible for government workers, potentially supporting a wide range of public-sector tasks.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the technology could help improve government efficiency, cybersecurity and public services, as agencies explore ways to use AI in their day-to-day operations.
The agreement marks another major step in the growing adoption of artificial intelligence by governments and public institutions, while also highlighting the increasing role of AI in areas such as administration, security and service delivery.
