LOVEJOY, Ga. — One year after 17-year-old Dameon Meyers Jr. was shot and killed while leaving a high school football game, his family is still waiting for answers and justice.
Clayton County Police said the shooting happened on Halloween night, Oct. 31, 2025, in the parking lot of the Lovejoy Library, which was being used as overflow parking for the Lovejoy High School game. Dameon and his 16-year-old brother, Makai Meyers, were walking to their car when three armed people confronted them. According to the family, the gunmen demanded that Dameon empty his pockets, then opened fire. Makai was pistol-whipped, and the family says nothing was taken. "They didn't take nothing off him. All they did was take his life," Makai said. Dameon died at Piedmont Henry Hospital.
Dameon, known to family as "Baby D," dreamed of becoming a barber and gave free haircuts to senior citizens and people experiencing homelessness. He also cut hair for classmates' senior pictures. "He always gave back," his father, Dameon Meyers Sr., said. His mother, Patricia Graziano, remembered him as a "gem" who brought out the best in others. Family and friends held a candlelight vigil in his memory.
In the most recent reports available, police had not identified any suspects, and no arrests had been announced. Anyone with information is asked to contact Clayton County Police.
A year later, the family still lives with the loss of a young man with plans for his future. May Dameon's memory continue to inspire those who knew him, and may his family find the justice and peace they're seeking.
