South African police have discovered the body of a ninth woman in the Ekurhuleni municipality east of Johannesburg, as authorities investigate a series of killings reported in the area.
The latest victim was found near a construction site on Thursday. Police have not yet confirmed whether her death is connected to the other cases under investigation.
Authorities say the nine cases have heightened concerns about violent crime and the safety of women in the area.
A multidisciplinary investigation has been launched, with police working to establish whether there are links between the deaths and to identify those responsible.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged that authorities will conduct a thorough investigation.
Police have also appealed to members of the public with relevant information to come forward.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have cautioned against drawing conclusions about the cases before forensic and investigative work is completed.
