Two lives were tragically cut short when a shooting erupted at an AT&T store in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Mary Anne Oberlies, 78, of Gulfport, and Shane Basquill, 31, of Kiln, were identified by Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer as the two victims of the September 7 shooting.
The incident happened at approximately 11:14 a.m. inside the AT&T store at Crossroads Mall on Crossroads Parkway.
According to Gulfport police, Basquill was an employee at the store and Oberlies was a customer. Both suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were reportedly inside the store when the shooting occurred.
Police identified the suspect as 71-year-old Samuel Jermone Andrews of Harrison County. Investigators said officers located his vehicle as it was leaving the area and conducted a traffic stop. Andrews was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered.
Andrews is being held without bond on two counts of first-degree murder. He also faces a $500,000 bond for one count of shooting into a crowd.
Authorities have not released a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Mary Anne Oberlies and Shane Basquill are now remembered by those who knew them as two lives that ended far too soon, leaving behind grief in the Gulfport and Kiln communities.
