Canada has unveiled a new vertical banknote featuring King Charles III, marking a significant change in the country’s currency.
The note will feature King Charles III, making him the first new monarch to appear on a Canadian banknote in more than 70 years. The change follows the death of Queen Elizabeth II and Charles becoming King in 2022.
The new design represents an important moment in Canada’s monetary history, as Canadian banknotes have featured Queen Elizabeth II for decades.
The introduction of Charles III’s portrait reflects his position as King of Canada, while the new vertical format gives the banknote a noticeably different appearance from traditional Canadian notes.
The move also highlights Canada’s constitutional relationship with the monarchy, with the Canadian monarch serving as the country’s head of state.
