TUCSON, Ariz. — Today, family, friends and loved ones are mourning the loss of 52-year-old Ira Jesus Chavez following a devastating early-morning crash in Tucson.
The crash happened at approximately 3:45 a.m. Sunday near Valencia Road and Midvale Park Road.
According to Tucson police, Chavez was speeding when his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. His vehicle then continued across several lanes before crashing into a power pole.
Chavez died at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was not found to be intoxicated, according to police. Investigators also reported finding evidence of alcohol consumption inside Chavez's vehicle and determined that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The sudden loss of Ira Jesus Chavez has left behind a painful silence for those who knew him. What began as an ordinary early morning ended in tragedy, leaving loved ones to remember a life that was gone far too soon.
