CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 21-year-old motorcyclist died Friday night after a crash with an SUV in west Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
Officers responded around 8:32 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, to the 2300 block of Wilkinson Boulevard near West Morehead Street. Detectives said Wildt Hardin was riding a Yamaha motorcycle outbound on Wilkinson Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it collided with a Chevrolet Blazer. The Blazer was driven by a 26-year-old woman who was turning left onto West Morehead Street.
Officers found Hardin in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. MEDIC took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His family has been notified.
Police said the Blazer's driver was screened and showed no signs of impairment. Investigators determined speed was a factor in the crash, and they are still working to determine whether impairment played a role for Hardin.
CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating.
