FARMINGTON, Mich. — A 15-year-old boy died Wednesday evening after he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing Orchard Lake Road in Farmington, leaving his family, school and community grieving, according to the Farmington Department of Public Safety.
Officers responded around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, to Orchard Lake Road at Shiawassee Street. Police said a pickup truck traveling north struck the boy as he was crossing within the crosswalk. Officers tried life-saving measures before he was taken to a hospital, where he died. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating. Farmington Hills police and fire assisted.
Police haven't released the names of those involved, and detectives are asking witnesses to contact Special Operations Cmdr. Patrick Spelman at 248-699-5150. He was a student at North Farmington High School, which remembered him as a natural leader.
A young life full of promise ended in a moment, leaving a silence in the places he belonged. May his family find strength and comfort, and may his memory be honored with love.
