EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A 28-year-old East Brunswick woman died after being struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning, leaving her family, friends and community grieving, according to the East Brunswick Police Department.
Officers responded around 5:09 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, after a 911 call reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian at State Highway 18 and Racetrack Road. Michelle F. Chitacapa was taken to a local hospital, where she later died. The driver was traveling northbound, stopped at the scene and was not injured.
The northbound intersection was closed during the early morning hours. Patrolman Michael Manning of the department's Traffic Safety Section is investigating. Police haven't said how the crash happened. Anyone who witnessed it or has information is asked to call the Traffic Safety Section at 732-390-6969.
At just 28, Chitacapa had so much life ahead of her, with tomorrows that will now remain unwritten. Her passing is a painful reminder of how fragile life can be, and how one ordinary morning can become a day forever marked by sorrow. May her memory remain a gentle light in the darkness of this tragedy, and may those who loved her find comfort in the days ahead.
