CHICAGO — A motorcycle driver died Wednesday night after a crash with an SUV on Chicago's South Side, leaving his family, friends and community grieving, according to Chicago police. Community tributes have identified him as Ervinn Alejandre, known to many as "Shaun NoCap."
The crash happened at about 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the 6100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Police said a silver SUV was traveling southbound and turning left onto 61st Street when it struck a northbound motorcycle carrying two men. The 21-year-old driver was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died. The 24-year-old passenger was also taken there and was in critical condition.
The SUV's driver had back and knee pain but refused medical help from EMS, police said. He was cited.
Behind the headlines is a human life that mattered, a name that deserves to be remembered and a story that should not be forgotten. There is something profoundly painful about a goodbye that comes without warning. One moment holds the possibility of tomorrow, and the next leaves behind questions, grief and memories that become more precious with each passing day.
As the Chicago community reflects on this loss, may his memory be treated with dignity, compassion and love, and may those who knew him find strength in their sorrow.
