MASON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ€” A 77-year-old woman died Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Cass County, leaving her family, friends and community grieving, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Clint Roach said deputies responded around 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, to the intersection of Mason Street and Calvin Center Road in Mason Township, near the Indiana border. Investigators said Elsie Levan was driving a Nissan Rogue east on Mason Street. She stopped at the intersection but failed to yield the right of way, and a Toyota Highlander traveling south on Calvin Center Road struck the driver's side of her vehicle.
Levan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Highlander's 38-year-old driver was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and deputies do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. The sheriff's office is investigating.
Some goodbyes arrive without warning, leaving behind a silence that words cannot fill. One moment the world continues as usual, and the next a family and community may find themselves facing a loss they never imagined. Her passing is a painful reminder that life is precious and more fragile than we sometimes realize.
Though details of her personal life haven't been publicly shared, her life deserves to be remembered with dignity, compassion and respect. Behind every name in a tragic news report is a human story that matters. Heartfelt condolences go out to everyone mourning this loss.
