TOLEDO, Ohio โ€” A 26-year-old Toledo man died early Sunday after a two-vehicle crash near North Cove Boulevard and Central Avenue, according to the Toledo Police Department. A second person in the vehicle was also seriously hurt.
Officers were called to the area around 3:47 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. Police said a westbound vehicle attempted to turn right onto Pioneer Lane from the left lane. Another westbound vehicle then struck it on the passenger side.
Charlton Wallace and his 26-year-old passenger both suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision. Emergency crews took them to a hospital, where Wallace was pronounced dead. The Toledo Blade reported that a Toledo man died and another person was seriously injured after a vehicle attempted a right turn from the left lane. The passenger's current condition has not been released.
Police have not said what caused the driver to attempt the turn from the left lane. They also haven't said whether speed, alcohol, or other factors played a role, or whether anyone from the second vehicle was hurt or cited. Those questions are expected to be part of the ongoing investigation.
Wallace's death is the latest fatal crash on Toledo roads in recent weeks, a reminder of how quickly a late-night drive can turn tragic. Police urge drivers to stay alert, use turn signals in advance, and avoid sudden lane changes or turns, especially during overnight hours when visibility and traffic patterns can change quickly.
