GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. โ€” A 38-year-old Gloucester County man died Monday evening in a single-vehicle crash, leaving his family, friends and community grieving, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers responded at about 5:33 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, to the crash near the intersection of Belroi Road and Bellamy Lane. A preliminary investigation found that a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country ran off the side of the road and struck a tree.
The driver, identified as Aaron Matthew Haywood, suffered fatal injuries. His next of kin have been notified. State police have not said what caused the van to leave the road, and no further details about conditions at the scene have been released. The crash remains under investigation.
Some goodbyes arrive without warning. One moment an ordinary Monday evening is underway, and the next a family is facing a loss that changes everything. For those who knew Haywood, the days ahead will be painful, and his absence will be felt in the quiet moments and in the places and routines that were part of his life.
Not every detail of his life has been shared publicly, but that doesn't make it any less meaningful. Behind his name was a person who mattered, with a story and with people who loved him, and the memories he leaves behind belong to all of them.
As Gloucester County mourns, his loved ones are asked to lean on one another and on the community around them. May those who knew him find comfort in the time they shared, and may his memory be honored with dignity and compassion.
