REEVES COUNTY, Texas — Two tractor-trailer drivers died early Friday morning after a head-on collision on County Road 302 in Reeves County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The crash happened around 2 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23. A preliminary investigation by DPS found that Juan Pizano, 48, of Joshua, Texas, was driving a tractor-trailer west on CR 302. In a marked no-passing zone, his truck crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane, driving on the wrong side of the road.
Pizano's truck collided with a tractor-trailer traveling east on CR 302, driven by Laydeker Chivas, 42, of Odessa, Texas.
Because of the force of the impact, both drivers were ejected from their vehicles. DPS said neither man was wearing a seatbelt. Both suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
DPS has not said what caused Pizano's truck to cross the center line. The crash remains under investigation.
