Some losses leave a silence that words can never truly fill. The Denton community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Police Chief George William Bacorn Jr., 62, whose life was dedicated to protecting others, serving his community, and standing as a familiar presence for generations.
Chief Bacorn died Friday morning, September 25, following a devastating vehicle collision on Maryland Route 331 near Dover Neck Road in Easton. According to Maryland State Police, a Ford Transit delivery truck traveling westbound crossed the center double-yellow line for reasons still under investigation and struck a Chevrolet Silverado before colliding head-on with the Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Bacorn. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Beyond the uniform and badge was a man whose career represented decades of commitment. Chief Bacorn had served as Dentonโs police chief for 36 years and this year led the Maryland Municipal League Chiefs and Sheriffs Association.
His passing is more than the loss of a public servant; it is the closing of a remarkable chapter in a community he worked tirelessly to protect. His dedication touched countless lives, often quietly, through the responsibility he carried each day.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore ordered flags lowered to half-staff in his honor, recognizing a life devoted to service and community safety.
As Denton mourns, the thoughts of many turn toward his family, fellow officers, friends, and everyone who knew his years of service. May his memory remain a lasting reminder that a life dedicated to helping others can leave footprints that time cannot erase.
Rest peacefully, Chief George Bacorn. Your service will be remembered, your sacrifice honored, and your legacy carried forward. ๐๏ธ๐
