U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported Israel Flores-Ortiz, an El Salvadoran national who was convicted of groping multiple students at Fairfax High School in Virginia.
After serving an abbreviated jail sentence, Flores-Ortiz was transferred into ICE custody. He was subsequently deported to El Salvador following a federal immigration removal order.
An ICE spokesperson highlighted the deportation while commenting on the case, saying, “This groper is gone.”
The case comes as the Trump administration continues its broader immigration enforcement campaign, including efforts to increase deportations and challenge so-called sanctuary jurisdictions that restrict cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration officials.
The incident has renewed debate over immigration enforcement, public safety and how local governments should cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
