The crash involved a van transporting Belleville West High School students. However, early reporting noted that the school district had not independently confirmed Hinds' enrollment at Belleville West. For accuracy, his connection to the student transportation van is confirmed, while his specific school enrollment should be attributed carefully. Bacol Today
Investigators are working to determine what caused the crash. Illinois State Police are assisting with the crash reconstruction, while Cahokia Heights Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The investigation also drew attention to the vehicle used to transport the students. Local reporting identified the van as a 2014 Ford E-350 and said the transportation company, MVP Transportation, had been providing services to the district. The district later ended its transportation arrangement with the company while reviewing its transportation practices. https://www.firstalert4.com
Police later said speed was a factor in the crash, while investigators continued examining the evidence surrounding the collision. The circumstances leading up to the van striking the traffic signal remained under investigation. aol.com
Hinds' death has left his family, friends and members of the Belleville-area school community mourning the loss of a 17-year-old whose life ended during what began as a routine trip to school.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the complete sequence of events leading to the fatal crash.
