🚨 Xabi Alonso is already impressed by the influence Emiliano Martínez can have at Chelsea.
The Argentine goalkeeper made his Chelsea debut just days after completing his move from Aston Villa, starting in the Blues’ dramatic 4-3 Premier League victory over Brighton.
Despite having only been around the squad for around 48 hours, Martínez was trusted to go straight into the starting XI.
Alonso believes the World Cup-winning goalkeeper brings more than his ability between the posts. The Chelsea boss highlighted Martínez’s experience, personality and leadership qualities.
“Day by day, we will feel this presence because he has this charisma, this aura to influence and have a very positive connection with the rest of the team,” Alonso said.
Martínez may not have kept a clean sheet against Brighton, but he made several important saves as Chelsea held on for the victory.
The 33-year-old now has a full week to work with his new teammates before Chelsea’s next Premier League challenge.
For Alonso, Martínez’s presence could become an important part of Chelsea’s ambitions this season. 🔵🧤
