A vigilant resident’s timely report and a swift police response have led to the recovery of a hidden Beretta pistol and a stolen Toyota Camry in separate operations undertaken by the Gombe State Police Command.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Office I’mr Buhari Abdullahi, said the first operation was triggered after a concerned resident discovered a Beretta pistol concealed beneath a stone near Brave Rock Sport/Recreational Park in the New GRA area of Gombe and alerted the police.
“The firearm was promptly reported to the Police, and detectives immediately responded to the scene, where the Beretta pistol with an empty magazine was recovered.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the ownership of the weapon and the circumstances surrounding its concealment,” the PPRO said.
In a separate operation, police operatives disclosed that they’ve recovered a stolen 2010 Toyota Camry after a coordinated response involving the Police Control Room and officers attached to the Dukku Division.

According to Abdullahi, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and escaped when he realised police officers were closing in on him.
“During the operation, the suspect fled the scene, abandoning the stolen Toyota Camry. A bunch of fabricated master keys and other suspicious items were recovered from the vehicle. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and conclude the investigation,” he stated.
The recovered master keys are suspected to have been used in several vehicle theft operations, while detectives continue efforts to track down the fleeing suspect.
The police spokesperson praised the vigilance of residents, noting that public cooperation remains vital to combating crime in the state.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance public safety and support ongoing crime-fighting efforts across Gombe State.
