Trenton Thomas, 26, and Karlie Haycraft, 29, both of Brandenburg, Kentucky, died early Sunday morning following a two-vehicle collision on Old Mill Road in Meade County.
Kentucky State Police said the crash happened at approximately 12:54 a.m. on September 20 near LG&E Road.
According to the preliminary investigation, a black 2016 Nissan Pathfinder driven by 26-year-old Isaac Jenkins of Brandenburg was traveling eastbound on Old Mill Road when it crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane.
The Nissan collided head-on with a silver 2016 Ford Fusion carrying Thomas and Haycraft.
Thomas was driving the Ford Fusion, while Haycraft was a passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Meade County Coroner at approximately 1:13 a.m.
Jenkins was transported by helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Kentucky State Police said the reason the Nissan crossed the center line remains under investigation.
The investigation is being handled by Kentucky State Police Post 4, with assistance from the Meade County Sheriff's Office, emergency medical services, local fire departments, and the Meade County Coroner's Office.
The deaths of Thomas and Haycraft have left their families, friends, and the Brandenburg community mourning two lives lost in a sudden early-morning collision.
