Tanner Blaine Schmidt, 26, of Mills Township, lost his life Tuesday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in Larkin Township, Michigan.
The collision happened around 2:39 p.m. September 15 on North Eastman Road, north of East Schneider Court. According to the Midland County Sheriff's Office, Schmidt was riding a 1980 Suzuki motorcycle southbound when a northbound 1990 Ford F-150 turned left in front of him.
The impact left Schmidt with fatal injuries. Deputies and emergency crews responded to the scene, but Schmidt was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup was driven by a 72-year-old man from Mills Township. He suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to MyMichigan Medical Center for treatment.
Several agencies assisted with the response, including the Larkin Township Fire Department, Mills Township Fire Department, MyMichigan EMS, the Midland County Medical Examiner, and Michigan State Police's Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
Investigators are still working to establish the full circumstances of the collision. Toxicology results are pending to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role. Once the investigation is complete, the Midland County Sheriff's Office is expected to submit its final report to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office for review.
For Schmidt's family, friends, and the Mills Township community, his death marks the sudden loss of a 26-year-old whose life ended in a devastating roadway collision.
