Steven Joseph Reynolds, 54, of Severna Park, Maryland, died after being struck by an SUV in a hit-and-run crash on October 3, 2026.

The crash happened around 10:25 p.m. as Reynolds was walking in a crosswalk on northbound Ritchie Highway near Magothy Bridge Road.

Police said the SUV continued north on Ritchie Highway after striking Reynolds, turned into the Magothy Shopping Center and later returned to the highway. Reynolds was taken to a local trauma center, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators initially described the vehicle as a black Land Rover L462. Police said the SUV likely had damage to its right headlight and front fender and was possibly missing its passenger-side mirror and front wheel-well trim.

Authorities later identified 56-year-old Michael Garner Hilliard of Severna Park as the suspected driver. He was arrested and is being held without bail. Charging documents obtained by CBS Baltimore say he faces charges related to leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.

Reynolds was remembered in the community as a father, business owner, youth sports coach and longtime baseball and softball umpire. He also supported local animal rescue efforts with his wife.

A memorial service for Reynolds is scheduled for October 10 at Severna Park Baptist Church.

The investigation and legal proceedings remain ongoing.
