Sergio Ramos is once again at a major crossroads in his football career.
The legendary centre-back, who turned 40 in March 2026, is currently without a club after his spell with Mexican side Monterrey came to an end.
Despite his age, Ramos has previously remained open to continuing his playing career, meaning retirement has not officially been confirmed.
For more than two decades, Ramos has built one of the most decorated careers in modern football.
His greatest years came at Real Madrid, where he developed from a talented young defender into the club’s captain and one of its most influential leaders.
During his time at Madrid, Ramos won numerous major trophies and became particularly famous for his ability to score important goals despite playing in defence.
One of the most unforgettable moments of his career came in the 2014 Champions League final against Atlético Madrid. With Real Madrid trailing late in the match, Ramos scored a dramatic equaliser in the 93rd minute, sending the game into extra time. Madrid eventually won 4–1 and lifted their long-awaited La Décima. 🏆
Ramos later continued his career with Paris Saint-Germain, returned to Sevilla, and eventually moved to Monterrey in Mexico.
His international career with Spain ended in 2023. Ramos finished with 180 appearances for Spain, winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup and two European Championships during an extraordinary international career.
Now, with the defender without a club, football fans are waiting to see what comes next.
Will Ramos find one more challenge and continue playing, or will the legendary defender finally decide that the time has come to walk away?
One thing is certain: whatever decision he makes, Sergio Ramos has already secured his place among football’s greatest defenders. 👑🏆
