Samuel May, 40, of Martinez, Georgia, is being remembered following a fatal pedestrian crash on Old Evans Road.
According to the information provided by Paganlog, deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office responded at approximately 12:33 a.m. to Old Evans Road near Briarwood Drive after receiving a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
Samuel had reportedly been walking west with a friend when a westbound vehicle struck him. The driver, identified in the report as 20-year-old Tyrese Perkins of Augusta, told deputies he had not seen Samuel in the roadway before the collision.
Emergency assistance was attempted at the scene, but Samuel died from his injuries. Columbia County Coroner Terry Norman later identified Samuel and confirmed that his next of kin had been notified.
