Nvidia is reportedly considering a major financial commitment to support the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States.

The chipmaker is in discussions about guaranteeing billions of dollars in debt financing for Nscale, an AI cloud provider developing a major data centre project in West Virginia.

The proposed arrangement would involve Nvidia providing a residual value guarantee, potentially stepping in if Nscale defaults on construction-related payments.

Such an arrangement could help Nscale secure the financing needed to cover electricity, construction and other infrastructure costs associated with its planned campus.

The project is particularly significant because Anthropic has reportedly signed a $44.6 billion contract covering the first building at the site.

The proposed facility is expected to have a capacity of approximately 460 megawatts and use Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin computing technology.

The discussions highlight how deeply major semiconductor companies are becoming involved in financing the infrastructure needed to support artificial intelligence.

However, the arrangement remains under discussion and should not be interpreted as a completed financing agreement.

The development also raises questions about financial exposure in the AI infrastructure market, particularly as investors increasingly examine the enormous costs associated with building large-scale computing facilities.
