Manchester City are continuing to explore the possibility of signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández before the transfer window closes, with Chelsea reportedly now willing to consider selling the Argentina international for the right offer.

City’s interest in the 25-year-old midfielder has continued despite the club previously missing a deadline set by Chelsea earlier in August to make an offer.

Chelsea were understood to value Fernández at around £120 million, but the latest reports indicate that the club could allow him to leave if their valuation is met and they are able to improve their own squad before the end of the transfer window.

Manchester City are looking to strengthen their midfield following a series of departures. Rodri has left for Barcelona, while Tijjani Reijnders has also departed, Nico González has joined Newcastle, and Bernardo Silva left after his contract expired.

The departures have increased the need for midfield reinforcements, with Fernández believed to be one of the players admired by City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with him at Chelsea.

However, no agreement has been reached between the two clubs, and there have reportedly been no formal club-to-club negotiations so far. The transfer therefore remains uncertain as the deadline approaches.

Fernández was also left out of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Luton, although manager Xabi Alonso insisted that the decision was based on his selection plans and described the midfielder as a good professional who had continued to train well.

Chelsea are believed to be considering possible midfield reinforcements should Fernández leave, with several players being linked as potential replacements. The Blues are expected to carefully weigh any offer before allowing one of their key midfielders to join a Premier League rival.

With the transfer window closing soon, Manchester City will have to decide whether to make a formal move for Fernández or pursue alternative midfield targets. The coming days could therefore be crucial in determining the Argentine’s future.
