Some moments leave a silence so deep that words can never truly fill it.
On September 19, 2026, a devastating crash on Highway 42 in Coos County, Oregon, claimed three lives, including those of James Edward Price, 32, of Myrtle Point, Genevieve Marie Huffaker, 20, of Coquille, and a 4-month-old baby girl.
According to Oregon State Police, the crash happened at approximately 4:46 p.m. near milepost 21, within the Myrtle Point city limits.
Investigators said 69-year-old Gregory Paul Olson of Myrtle Point had been involved in an earlier incident at a local business and attempted to leave without paying for merchandise. A Myrtle Point police officer later attempted to contact Olson.
Police said Olson fled in a silver Land Rover LR3 and traveled eastbound on Highway 42 at a high rate of speed. He subsequently lost control, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound blue Subaru Forester.
The Subaru was driven by James Edward Price, who was towing a jet ski. Price was pronounced dead at the scene.
Genevieve Marie Huffaker was riding as a passenger in the Subaru. She was transported to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
A 4-month-old female infant was also in the Subaru. The baby was transported to a Portland-area hospital but later died from her injuries. Authorities have not released additional information about the child's identity or relationship to the other occupants.
Olson suffered serious injuries and remained hospitalized as authorities continued their investigation. Oregon State Police have not announced final findings or additional information about possible charges.
The deaths of James Edward Price, Genevieve Marie Huffaker, and the infant have left families and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss.
Three lives were taken in a single collision, including a baby whose life had only just begun. Their loved ones are now left with memories, grief, and questions as investigators continue working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
