With profound sadness, we remember Heaven Wood, a mother from Chicago, Illinois, who lived in Peoria, Illinois, and her precious young son, King, whose lives were tragically cut short in Peoria County. Twenty-four-year-old Jeremiah Duncan, who was arrested after an hours-long search in connection with the investigation, was taken into custody Friday as a grieving community struggled to understand the heartbreaking loss.
The morning began quietly at Royal Oaks Estates before tragedy unfolded. Around 6:09 a.m., deputies responded to a vehicle fire near Abby Circle and were led to a residence on Yorkshire. Inside, Heaven was found suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a hospital, but sadly, she could not be saved.
Investigators later discovered her young son, King, inside a vehicle that had crashed and caught fire. Authorities said two other children were found unharmed inside the home, leaving an unimaginable heartbreak behind for those who loved Heaven and her children.
As deputies searched for Duncan, residents were urged not to approach him. He was eventually located near Molleck and Oakcrest drives and taken into custody. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment following the arrest. Officials said the investigation remained active, and charges had not yet been announced in the information provided.
