Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has assured the Super Falcons that they will receive the cash rewards, houses and national honours certificates promised by President Bola Tinubu following their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, insisting the delay is due to government processes rather than a change of commitment, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The assurances come as the Super Falcons intensify preparations for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco while still awaiting the fulfilment of the Federal Government’s promise of $100,000 cash rewards, housing allocations and national honours announced after their record-extending 10th continental title last year.
Speaking on the delay, Dikko explained that the rewards are still being processed by the relevant government agencies and expressed optimism that the payments could be made before the tournament.
“It’s a government process. Those things are off-budget. It has to be provided in the budget and what have you,” Dikko said in quotes relayed by UK-based Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
“But the President approved their payment since August 2025. It is with the finance people and the Accountant-General’s Office. They are processing it and they are working very hard on it.
“The Minister of Finance is working on it to make sure that money would drop, hopefully before the WAFCON.

“But it doesn’t matter whether the money drops before then or later, they’ll get it. It will be paid to their account; it won’t be paid to anyone else.”
In December 2025, while presenting the Super Eagles with their national honours certificates and title documents for housing allocations following their runners-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Dikko had disclosed in Fez, Morocco, that the Super Falcons’ rewards had already been processed.
The NSC also stated at the time that the players’ cash rewards would be paid directly into their bank accounts.
The prolonged wait has sparked concern among former internationals, with members of the United Ex-Super Falcons Worldwide warning that the government’s failure to fulfil its promises could affect the team’s morale as they pursue a record-extending 11th WAFCON title and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Record 10-time champions Nigeria have been drawn in Group C and will battle Zambia, Egypt and Malawi in Rabat.
The four semi-finalists will qualify automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, while the four losing quarter-finalists will be in contention for places in the intercontinental playoffs.
