Khalifa, 39, who has more than 2.5 million Instagram followers, became widely known in Egypt through her television work, including the crime-focused program Mission Impossible. She also owns a cosmetic clinic and an events-related company. She was arrested in Cairo in April 2025.
According to Egyptian authorities and state media, investigators seized more than 750 kilograms of synthetic drugs and raw materials. They also reportedly discovered two apartments allegedly being used as clandestine laboratories, along with unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The case involved 28 defendants in total. Twelve, including Khalifa, received death sentences, while nine were sentenced to life imprisonment and seven were acquitted.
Khalifa has denied the allegations, and her lawyer has indicated that the defense intends to appeal. Importantly, the death sentence is not yet final; Egyptian law allows the ruling to be challenged through the appeals process.
The case has attracted significant attention because of Khalifa’s public profile and the severity of the allegations. The court’s decision followed the required consultation with Egypt’s Grand Mufti before issuing the capital sentence.
