Cody Mallula, 16, of Geneva, Nebraska, died following a rollover crash on Highway 30 west of Lexington.
According to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted to a vehicle reported stolen from the North Platte area. The vehicle was later spotted traveling east on Highway 30.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not pull over. The pursuit continued through Cozad before deputies disengaged.
Minutes later, authorities received a report of a rollover crash involving a matching vehicle west of Lexington.
Deputies arrived and found Mallula ejected from the vehicle. Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Mallula was 16 years old. His death has left his family, friends and community mourning a young life lost far too soon.
