Carol Geiger, 67, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, died following a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 421 in Zionville, Watauga County, North Carolina, on September 28, 2026. The crash occurred at approximately 10 a.m. near Mabel School Road, according to information released by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Investigators reported that a northbound Ford F-250 crossed the centerline and collided with Geiger’s Hyundai Kona. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup, identified as 64-year-old Henry Bontrager of Ellenboro, North Carolina, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local medical centre. According to the preliminary investigation, speed and impairment were not considered contributing factors. However, Bontrager was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, driving left of center, and operating a vehicle without a driver’s licence.
